s wasn' t the weather that students home today. mark: dayton independent school officials made the decision after receiving a threat. wlwt news 5' s brian hamrick is live with this developing story. ryan: good afternoon, mark. they just located the person that made that threat -- brian: good afternoon, mark. that made that threat. superintendent here did not want to open the doors to school. of a safety risk. re told the suspect is a s about as ll the bomb threat against dayton schools was posted on social investigators were searching for the juvenile since then. when the person couldn' t be found, the superintendent felt the safest thing to do was to close school for the day. it affects the preschool, elementary, middle school and high school, about 1000 students in total. s

tragically leaves one person we' a woman. wlwt news 5' s dan griffin has been leading the way on this story throughout the morning, and has the latest. dan, good afternoon. dan: good afternoon. woman. that' neighbors and a family friend. t really elaborating on it -- t elaborating. it' s not clear where the fire started, but you can certainly see word spread. this is video from this morning. heavy smoke billowed from the home as fire crews handled the fire. passerbys and several neighbors frantically called 911 at about 2:00 this morning as they say big flames shot out of the home. fire crews arrived minutes later. mason' s fire chief tells us the victim was found in bed in a back bedroom. we' re told there were no other s unclear if there were working smoke detectors. neighbors tell us they saw the big flames. according to 911 calls we obtained, some even banged on

inside. meanwhile, others hoped and prayed no one was in the home. emmanul espinova: when i wake up, there was big smoke, i mean huge, when they open in the front, the big flame coming out, so they put more water to took it down. herb edmonds: makes you pause and reflect on how you know, just how quick things can happen. the cause of the fire is unknown at this point. -- dan the cause of the fire is : unknown at this point. neighbors and a woman who identified herself as a family friend told us an elderly woman lives in this home. she says that used to spend holidays together, she was certainly heartbroken and very tearful about all of this. meanwhile, fire investigators are not confirming any of this information at this point about the victim. they tell us they' re working on reports, just spoke with one of them a few minutes ago. update for you later tonight. for now live in mason, dan , griffin, wlwt news 5. lisa: we are still waiting on the cause of a deadly fire in springfield township.

too intense to rescue a man inside a home on timbermill court. after the fire was out, firefighters found the man near the kitchen. we are told the fire might have started in an enclosed patio -- the homeowner kept pets in there, with space heaters running. neighbors also tell us, the man was a hoarder. mark: a hamilton county deputy is okay after his cruiser was hit by a car overnight. the deputy was conducting a traffic stop and was putting the cruiser, when a vehicle struck his cruiser in the 4400 block of beechmont avenue. this is near lunken aiport. s side door of the amazingly no one was hurt. the driver who hit the cruiser was given a citation. lisa: we are learning more about a deadly crash in pendleton county, and the efforts to save a man' s life. 28-year-old david erskine was killed last week, driving on kentucky 17. he hit a semi truck, and flames engulfed his truck. another driver says he was

the wreckage and turned around to help. bobby johnson: we pulled him out to right about there and i couldn' t see what was holding him, i don' t know if seat belt had him across the lap or the dash had him pinned, i don' t know what happened. lisa: erskine did not survive. the 28-year-old was a volunteer at seven hills church. they tell us, erskine and his wife worked with the small groups ministry and had become active members about a year ago. mark: there is now a person of interest connected to the death of a middletown mother. the 37-year-old man was arrested on unrelated charges, and so brittany russell' s death. russell was found shot to death in her car last week in dayton. her six month old baby was in the back seat, unharmed. right now, investigators are not saying much, about the possible connection, with this person of the 37-year-old will be arraigned on drug charges later today. lisa: there was a hearing today for a lawsuit involving a student suspended at saint gabriel school in glendale. the student' s parents are suing the school, after he was

female student. the parents say, it was a staring contest, but the school the family' s attorney told the court the punishment was issued the school' s attorney says the principal and not the courts should decide the punishment. reviewing today' s arguments. s city club is leading a discussion on the black lives it' s part of a city conversations series. at the event, christina brown, a local social justice activist and community educator, will share her experiences with the black lives matter movement in cincinnati. the event begins at 7:00 tonight, at the first unitarian church on linton street. lisa: there were more than 1100 cases of hepatitis c in northern kentucky in 2015. now the health department is taking steps to stop the outbreak. they are now offering hepatitis c testing at health centers in boone, campbell, grant and kenton counties. grant county is also starting a syringe access exchange program.

it was shaking, where window busted. i saw it coming at me, it was scary. residents across mississippi were hit by twisters as well, the severe weather to high school during class. damage, no one was hurt. miriah: we saw down south. cloudy and gloomy conditions, a into tomorrow. we do have a warm up on the way. that is some thing to look forward to as we head into the end of the week. temperatures today still staying fairly cool, this low pressure has pushed off to the east. we saw behind it snow showers to the easternmost counties this morning. and a dense fog advisory along with that winter weather advisory has all expired. what we are seeing this afternoon' s conditions, gloomy conditions, but we will see changes as we head towards the end of the week or it low pressure scoots off to the south, we are looking at staying dry. the next chance for a sprinkle will be tomorrow evening with this system starting to sink
